Sviata Vecheria, the Ukrainian Holy Supper, is a meatless meal of twelve dishes that begins when the first star appears. Most Ukrainian families now sit down to it on December 24, after the church calendar change of 2023; families who keep the older calendar hold it on January 6. Either date, the work is the same: a long list of dishes cooked in the days before, and a table that has to be ready by dusk.
OH! cooks part of that table in Ottawa. Varenyky come frozen in ≈1.7 kg bags, ready to boil, with potato or potato & cheese filling: one bag is $45, two are $80 and the box of three is $110. The potato bag is the one for a strictly lean table, because the cheese filling carries dairy.
For something sweet, nalysnyky with poppy seed & cherry are $11 for 2 pcs. Poppy seed is the flavour of Ukrainian Christmas, the same seed that goes into kutia; the crêpe batter has milk and eggs, so families who keep the supper strictly lean set them out on Christmas Day. Nalysnyky with sweet cheese are $10 for 2 pcs, and a square of medovik honey cake is $8; both suit the days after the supper, when the fast is over.
Borscht, traditional, is $15 a portion. Lean borscht is one of the twelve dishes in most families; if your table is strictly meatless, ask about the stock when you order and we will tell you exactly what went into the pot.
Delivery: Kanata free, and elsewhere in Ottawa on orders from $50. There is no order deadline; the delivery day is agreed by text with each order, so the frozen varenyky can arrive a week early and wait in your freezer. Prepared in a rented, inspected commercial kitchen in Ottawa.

Common questions
When is Ukrainian Christmas Eve in 2026?
December 24, 2026, for most Ukrainian families, after the Orthodox Church of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church moved Christmas to December 25 in 2023. Families who keep the older calendar hold the supper on January 6, 2027.
Where can I buy frozen varenyky in Ottawa for Christmas?
From OH! Catering: ≈1.7 kg frozen bags of potato or potato & cheese varenyky, $45 a bag or $110 for three. Delivery: Kanata free, and elsewhere in Ottawa on orders from $50.
How far ahead should I order for Sviata Vecheria?
Any time: OH! sets no order deadline. Order a week or two before the supper and agree the delivery day by text; the varenyky arrive frozen and keep in your freezer until the evening.
