A celebration of life reception near Kanata or Carp is usually held in one of four places: a legion or community hall, a church hall attached to the service, a rural hall such as the rooms at the Carp Fairgrounds, or the family home. Choose the room first, because its rental hours and its rules on outside food set the timing of everything else. Then plan food for about two hours of standing, self-serve eating: six to nine pieces per guest when people will eat a meal later, ten to fourteen pieces per guest when the reception replaces lunch or dinner. OH! Catering delivers and builds that table across Kanata, Stittsville and the west end of Ottawa, from $42 per guest, plus applicable taxes.
A celebration of life reception is the gathering after a service or a burial, where family and friends share food and memories over an hour or two. In Kanata, Stittsville and Carp, families use four kinds of space. A legion or community hall is rented in a fixed block of hours, with tables and parking included. A church hall attached to the service often has an urn and volunteers already in place. A rural hall in Carp or West Carleton is usually rented by the day, which gives the afternoon room to run long. The family home keeps everyone close, and the table comes to the dining room so the kitchen stays out of it.
Royal Canadian Legion Branch 638, at 70 Hines Road in the Kanata North technology park, rents a large hall that holds up to 140 people, with round or rectangular tables set in any arrangement and free parking. Rental fees vary by day and time, and the branch lists discounts for members, charities and community groups. Before booking food, ask the rental officer whether outside catering is allowed and which hours your block covers, setup and pack-down included.
The Carp Agricultural Society rents rooms at the Carp Fairgrounds, 3790 Carp Road: the Ag Hall, Room85 and the Hayloft, each by the day, with or without bar services, and it lists community gatherings among the events it hosts. A per-day rental usually leaves room on the clock: confirm the access hours with the society, and the table can go in early while the family stays as long as the afternoon needs. Carp lies out past Kanata, so the address is checked against the 25 km delivery radius and any travel charge is on the quote before you book.
After a church service, the hall next door is the simplest choice: guests walk across, and the urn and its volunteers are usually in place. We plan around that arrangement and say plainly what we bring and what we count on the hall for.
Community halls rent in fixed blocks, which fixes the setup window and the pack-down to the same hours. Many set their own rules about what a supplier may bring in and which parts of the kitchen may be used, and several ask suppliers for a certificate of insurance. OH! works out of a commercial kitchen in Ottawa that we rent by the hour and holds no liability policy in its own name today, so we ask the hall about its rules before quoting and the family hears the answer from us first.
A reception at home needs a cleared surface and a route to it. West-end access is among the easiest in the city: the vehicle parks a few metres from the door, the carry is short and flat, and the table is built, finished and out of the way before the first car arrives.
A celebration of life reception is usually planned in days. Two to four weeks is a comfortable window for most styled tables; these dates rarely allow it, so the useful thing is a fast yes or no. Settle the room and the time first, and ask the hall the two questions above. The same day, call +1 613 710-0554 with the date, the hall or the address and a rough number, and you get a straight answer about what is possible, including the dates we cannot take. A written enquiry through the contact form is answered within one business day. A 30% deposit and a signed quote hold the date, and the balance is due 3 days before the event. The count is normally final 7 days before; where the reception falls inside that window, the count is agreed when you book and the quote says so in writing. Numbers can still rise after that.
For a two-hour reception, plan six to nine pieces per guest when people will eat a meal later, and ten to fourteen pieces per guest when the reception replaces lunch or dinner. By weight, that is 150 to 200 grams per guest beside a meal and 300 to 400 grams as the meal. Guest counts for these events stay uncertain until the day, so we plan to a number the family is comfortable with and build headroom in at the top.
What goes on the table is familiar and generous: sandwiches cut small, savoury bites and tartlets, a warm item where the space allows one, cheese and fruit, one leaf or grain salad, and small sweets alongside whatever the family has brought. The styling stays restrained, with quiet colour and low height. A 1.8 m trestle — the standard six-foot folding table — carries a grazing display for roughly twenty to twenty-five guests at appetiser level, a 2.4 m surface takes thirty to forty, and fifty guests want two 1.8 m tables joined or run as a pair.
The quote uses the published figures: $42 per guest for the food and the build at the starting price, $45 for delivery and on-site styling within 25 km, and a $600 event minimum, plus applicable taxes. The top of the $42–$65 per guest range applies when the table replaces a meal, and the full terms are on our pricing page. OH! is built for roughly 12 to 50 guests; for 60, tell us the date and the room and we confirm straight away whether we can cover it.
A styled table is built to run itself, so most receptions need nobody standing behind it. We arrive, build on the surface you have in 45 to 90 minutes, and leave the space ready before anyone comes back from the service. Leftovers are boxed before we leave, so the food goes home with the family. Serving pieces are collected the next morning, or the same evening by arrangement, and containers, washing up and returns all stay with us. The bill goes to whoever is handling it, with the figure agreed in advance.
Every item on a reception table is labelled with a plain-language name first, because guests take what is nearest and ask nobody. Share dietary preferences and allergy information when you enquire. We plan suitable choices and label the table clearly. For severe or life-threatening allergies we talk through cross-contact before you book, and we cannot guarantee allergen-free preparation on a shared table.
Hold times set the length of the reception. A table holding dairy and cured meat comes down after about two hours at room temperature, and after about one hour on a hot summer day, in line with Health Canada’s food safety advice. A reception planned past ninety minutes gets a second wave, held back and set out fresh, so the last guests eat as well as the first.
OH! is a family business: Anastasiia Stepanenko started it in the summer of 2026 and runs it with her mother, Nataliia. She also opened Cookiddoo Studio, cooking and baking classes for children in Kanata, and more about both of them is on the about page.

Common questions
Where can I hold a celebration of life reception near Kanata or Carp?
Four kinds of space cover most receptions here: a legion or community hall, a church hall attached to the service, a rural hall such as the Carp Fairgrounds rooms on Carp Road, or the family home. Royal Canadian Legion Branch 638 on Hines Road in Kanata rents a hall for up to 140 people. Ask any hall whether outside catering is allowed and which hours you have for setup and pack-down.
How much food do I need for a celebration of life reception for 50?
300–450 pieces cover 50 guests over two hours when people eat a meal later, and 500–700 pieces when the reception replaces lunch or dinner. By weight that is 7.5–10 kg beside a meal and 15–20 kg as the meal.
What does a catered reception for 40 cost near Kanata?
$1,680 for 40 guests at the starting price of $42 per guest, or $1,725 with delivery and on-site styling within 25 km, plus applicable taxes. Where the table replaces lunch or dinner, the top of the $42–$65 per guest range puts the same 40 at $2,600 before delivery.
How quickly can a reception after a funeral be catered in Kanata?
The answer comes the same day: one call to +1 613 710-0554 with the date, the hall or address and a rough number tells you whether the date can be covered. A date inside two weeks is always worth asking about, weekdays especially. Where the date is inside 7 days, the guest count is agreed when you book and written into the quote.
Can a caterer bring food into a legion or community hall?
Two answers from the hall settle it: whether outside food is allowed, and which hours your booking covers. Many halls set their own supplier rules and some ask for a certificate of insurance, which OH! cannot supply today, so we check with the hall before quoting.
